Adult Lessons
Our Adult Pottery Lessons are designed for beginners and those looking to expand their skills in a supportive, creative environment.
Meet Your Coordinator
Roy Reed, the Adult Lessons Coordinator. He organizes and facilitates all adult classes—arranging dates, recruiting instructors, and supporting participants. If you have questions, you can speak directly with your session instructor or reach out to Roy via the Guild email account.
Adult Program
There are many offerings throughout the year. The fall always starts with the Intro to Pottery Series that welcomes and provides a studio orientation for our new members. We also offer a number of workshops, Level 1 & 2 Intermediate lessons, glazing clinics, throwing camps and much more. Keep your eye out on the Events page for more information about the programs organized by our Creative Directions Team. Most offerings are geared toward all levels of potters, unless specifically indicated in the posting.

Studio Access
The studio is available to you 24/7, but we do ask that you check the calendar of events for lessons, workshops etc. happening at the guild and give priority to those events taking place in the reserved space (hand building workroom or wheel room), we rarely book both spaces at the same time to ensure members always have a place to come and play in the clay.
Events Calendar can be checked via the members portal on the Website: deepriverpottersguild.ca
Use the members-only password 9119 (effective Sept. 9, 2025) to access workshop registration, events, and resources.Door Code for 24/7 access to the studio: The studio door code will also be 9119 as of Sept. 9, 2025.
Please review the provided instructions for door security and firing sheet procedures before your first class attached to to the intro email or the weekly bulletin.
Join the DRPG Members Only page on Facebook. We share community events, tips and trick and some ideas for inspiration. Often the kiln team will also post when the kiln has been unloaded too!
Fall 2025 Intro to Pottery Class Guidelines
Classes run in two sessions each week:
Thursday Afternoon: 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Thursday Evening: 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to wedge your clay, set up, and review your previous work.
Practice outside of class is encouraged! Members can buddy up, ask questions, and learn from experienced potters. You will be asked to stop by the guild to check on the drying progress of your pieces etc. outside of your lesson time each week. Please ensure you make this a priority, as it will only support your progress as a new potter.
New students will receive an orientation to the studio, rules, and expectations during their first lesson.
What to Bring
To make the most of your pottery experience, please come prepared with:
Clothing: Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy, or bring an apron (must be taken home after each class).
Towel: A hand towel for drying your hands and cleaning tools. Towels cannot be stored on site—rinse at home in a bucket before washing.
Clay Bin: A small plastic bin to store clay and tools on a Guild shelf. It doesn’t need to be airtight—roughly the size of a laptop in length and width, and a loaf of bread in height is perfect.
Notebook: Keep track of techniques, glaze combinations, project notes, and new ideas.
Clay for your first projects in Intro to Pottery is included in your lesson fees. Instructors will explain how to purchase additional clay and supplies as you progress.
