Making your own
Damp Box
&
Introduction to Mold Making
A damp box is a sealed box that is used to store (unfired) ceramic pieces and keep them hydrated to a leatherhard consistency for several weeks (even months). Plaster molds, on the other hand, are used to fabricate hump molds, and other forms applicable to ceramic.
In this informative workshop, participants will make their own damp boxes, using plastic storage bins, with a snap tight lid and adding a layer of plaster to the bottom. You will learn how to calculate the amount of plaster and water needed, how to mix and pour liquid plaster and finish the top surface and edges.
You will get many years of use from this practical tool.

This workshop includes an additional module, introducing
plaster mold making for ceramic applications.
Using the same techniques, participants will also fabricate one or two small molds that you can take home. If you have a small object or texture that you would like to try making a mold of, please bring it to the workshop.
