The Magic of Unloading the Gas Kiln

There’s something undeniably special about gas kiln days at the guild. While it doesn’t fire as often as our electric kilns, when the Cone 10 Gas Firing is complete and the kiln is finally cool enough to open . That’s when the magic truly happens!

Unloading the gas kiln is like unwrapping a massive, ceramic-themed present. Each piece reveals the unpredictable and beautiful effects of the flame, atmosphere, and glaze reactions that only a reduction firing can offer. No two firings are ever the same, and that’s exactly what makes it so thrilling for our members.

Rich celadons, vibrant shinos, deep tenmokus, and those glorious carbon-trap moments. The results are often breathtaking. Members gather around, sharing in the excitement, marveling at the transformations, and of course, snapping a few photos before the pieces head home (or to our next show!).

Check out some of the beautiful work that emerged from our latest gas firing. We’re always proud of what our kiln, our glazes, and our talented community can produce when all the elements come together just right.

Stay tuned for our next firing, the magic awaits!
